The Design Was a Surprise

By the time Ali and Chris actually got married at Gloster House in 2021, we had been planning their wedding for two years. Two postponements, two versions of the guest list, two sets of hopes carefully put back in the drawer. What survived all of it was the thing they had been clear about from our first conversation: they wanted their guests looked after, generously and warmly, and everything else could move.

When it came to design, they knew the palette and were happy to be surprised by the final result. That kind of trust is rare, and it let me build something far bolder than a couple would usually agree to without seeing it first, set against the house rather than tucked politely inside it. When I couldn't find table linens in exactly the shade the design needed, I dyed the linens and runners myself. Nothing had to be chosen simply because it was the closest available option.

The hospitality lived in the parts nobody photographs and the day was shaped so guests were carried through it rather than directed. Afterwards, what people talked about most, was how well looked after they had felt.

It was my first full planning commission, and it remains one of my favourite weddings.
